Values are qualities of life, when you honour them you feel an internal rightness.
Values are either present or absent from the choices you make, when they are present you are excited and fulfilled, when absent you can feel flat.
Defining and exploring them, you will realise what is truly essential to you in your career.
Follow the steps below:
1. Identify Values in work and life. Ask yourself the questions below and write down the key values that come up:
a. Inspiration
i. Who inspires you?
ii. What inspires you?
iii. What are the characteristics of this?
b. Spread your passions
i. If you had 15mins to tell the world about what really matters to you, what would you say?
c. Identify when you were the happiest
i. What were you doing?
ii. Who was there?
iii. What contributed to this happiness?
d. When were you most proud?
i. What made you proud?
ii. Who shared the pride with you?
2. Look at the list of values you have written down, do you cherish them? do they excite you? Be selective choose 10 that excite you the most.
3. Define each value and what it means to you.
4. Measure each one on a scale of 1 – 10 in terms of how much you think you are honouring that value in your life today.
If you have a score of less than 7, what steps can you take in your career right now to increase that score?
